Stronger Bonds
Healthier Minds

Depict VR is a new two-person self-guided virtual reality product designed to alleviate distressing situations by promoting stronger relationships. We are developing two core applications for Depict VR , helping young people who hear voices to understand their experiences and helping couples to build stronger relationships

Hearing Voices

The original concept for Depict VR was born out of the mental health crisis affecting young people. Over 1 million (12%) young people in the UK hear voices, and many choose not to disclose their experience for fear of being stigmatized.

Depict VR provides an interactive space for young people to share their voice hearing experience and build a more meaningful relationship with a trusted confidante. The trusted confidante could be a family member or close friend. Research shows that strengthening these relationships has a positive impact on mental health and can help young people reconcile their voice hearing experience.

Couples Therapy

Depict VR is also being developed for couples therapy. Over 75% of couples attending therapy describe communication problems and struggle to address criticism and conflict. One of the most challenging first steps in couples therapy is creating open and constructive dialogue around criticism and praise in their daily communication. Depict VR is an effective tool to promote sharing experiences of criticism and praise and understanding how to handle such expressed emotions. These steps would help couples to develop strategies for resolving conflict.

We are working towards our first clinical trial to test Depict VR with a cohort of young people who hear voices. We are also demonstrating the product to couples therapists. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more and try Depict VR for yourself.
